The State Museum of the History of Culture of the Republic of Karakalpakstan has been showing exhibits to the public for more than 90 years, telling about the rich history and art of the Karakalpak people, flora and fauna of their native land. The first exhibition of the museum was organized in 1929 in Turtkul. Initially, the museum's collection consisted of 20 exhibits, while now the museum has more than 89,000 exhibits.

Information about the twentieth century,  jewelry and applied art, archaeology, handicrafts, nature, works by artists who made a significant contribution to the art of Karakalpakstan and who created brush masters in the Aral Sea region are stored in the museum's fund.

On the basis of the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On approval of the Program of measures to improve the activities and comprehensive strengthening of the material and technical base of state museums for 2017-2027" dated December 11, 2017, the Karakalpak State Museum of Local Lore was renamed to the State Museum of History and Culture of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. On the basis of this resolution, the Museum of Ecology in Muynak district and the Museum of Archaeology in Ellikkalinsky district have been transformed into branches of the museum.

Twenty eight stationary and mobile exhibitions were organized in 2020. An online program has been launched during quarantine. Information about the museum's exhibits is posted on the museum's website and on social networks. You can take a virtual tour of the museum.
