The Karakalpak Scientific Research Institute of the Humanities was established in 2012 on the basis of the association of the Institute of Language and Literature named after Davkaraev I. N. and the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography.
The main goal of the institute is to develop issues of historical science of the people of the Southern Aral Sea region, study the issues of ancient, modern and recent history, problems of ethnogenesis and ethnic history, material and spiritual culture, history and theory of art of the peoples of this region, study the history and modern state of the Karakalpak language, literature and folklore.
The main directions of scientific research of the institute are archeology of the Aral Sea region, ethnography of the peoples of the Aral Sea region, history of Karakalpakstan, modern Karakalpak language, modern Karakalpak literature, Karakalpak folklore, history of the Karakalpak language, Karakalpak classical literature.
Currently, the institute has the following scientific divisions:
Department of Karakalpak Literature and Folklore;
Department of Modern Karakalpak Language;
Department of History;
Department of Archaeology;
Department of Ethnography.
The institute carries out work within the framework of 3 projects of fundamental research, 3 projects of applied research and 2 innovation projects.
